Sustainable Development Goal 15: LIFE ON LAND

Sustainable development is defined as development that achieves current requirements without jeopardising future generations' ability to fulfill their own. Every fifteen years, targets for sustainable development are set. In 2015, a new strategy was prepared and a new set of targets were established. This 2030 agenda is composed of 17 sustainable development goals to drive growth over the coming 15 years by eradicating poverty, addressing climate change, and combating inequalities. The problem is to ensure that the objectives are met in a manner that ensures nobody is left behind.
Goal 15, “Life on Land” is one of the most fascinating among other sustainable development goals, quoted as follows :
“Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.”
The objectives
All of us can contribute to achieve the Global Goals. Mentioned below are the 12 goals to act quickly to conserve and sustain land life.
● Terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems must be protected and restored.
● Recover degraded forests and end deforestation.
● Stop desertification and reinstate degraded land (by 2030).
● Ensure mountain ecosystem preservation (by 2030).
● Save natural habitats and biodiversity.
● Endorse availability to genetic resources and reasonable sharing of advantages.
● Trafficking and poaching of protected species must be nullified.
● Invasive alien species must be avoided on land and in water ecosystems.
● Governmental planning should include biodiversity and ecosystem.
● Raise financial resources to preserve and utilise biodiversity and ecosystems in a climate resilient manner.
● Incentivize and finance the sustainable management of forests.
● Tackle poaching and trafficking on a global scale.
The underpinning for our existence on this planet is a thriving land life. We are all part of the planet's ecology, and we have wreaked havoc on it by deforestation, habitat destruction, and land degradation. It is not a cause to encourage the sustainable utilisation of our ecosystems and the conservation of nature. It's the only way we'll be able to stay alive.
